Proficient Builders of Kenya Association (PBKA)

About Us

Who we are

Proficient Builders of Kenya Association, is a registered organization under the Societies Act of Kenya.  It was formed in 2018 by pioneers in construction industry in Kenya, and later on fully registered as a society in early 2020. The association encompasses construction professionals from both the private and public sectors across the country, aiming to safeguard the interests of all construction professionals and the stakeholders in Kenya.

The construction sector in Kenya is majorly labor-intensive, with about 60% of workers, including skilled, unskilled, educated, and socially disadvantaged individuals, being engaged in this industry. However, the sector faces significant challenges, as it is largely unorganized, with workers often subjected to harsh and inhumane working conditions.

Skilled and unskilled construction workers play essential roles in various building and construction projects. Unfortunately, research indicates that these workers are often undervalued and their rights undermined, with issues like underpayment, non-compliance with working policies, lack of capacity building, inadequate provision of protective equipment, unsafe working conditions, and failure to take responsibility in case of accidents being common occurrences.

Addressing these problems is crucial to ensuring that construction projects are carried out with the involvement of well-equipped and experienced laborers, in safe and fair working conditions, and with proper remuneration. Construction workers in Kenya form a vulnerable segment of the unorganized sector.

To tackle these issues related to working conditions, ill-treatment, substandard construction facilities, poor health, and safety measures in the construction sector, the construction professionals agreed to establish an organization that would safeguard their welfare. This organization aims to promote the well-being of both clients and construction professionals in Kenya by enforcing strict adherence to standards and regulations, particularly those directly affecting the construction industry, such as safety, wage payments, counterfeit products, and healthcare

The primary objective of this association is to ensure that all regulations are followed and favorable policies are implemented, creating a conducive environment for delivering quality and standard projects within the construction industry.
